“Ruten” is an installation that invites you to quietly reflect on the unnoticed flow of time, through the lens of your senses.

SupernaturalDeluxe

SuperDeluxe, the legendary live space in Nishi-Azabu that hosted experimental events night after night, has been reborn. Since 2022, it has taken root in the heart of Kamogawa, Chiba, as SupernaturalDeluxe—a registered tangible cultural property transformed into a hybrid laboratory where music, food, nature, circular agriculture, and the local community converge as one.

mobile (kinetic sculpture)

The mobiles created by Shinobu Hashimoto find new expression within the unique space of the Hiire-gura, a registered cultural property on the grounds of SupernaturalDeluxe. Inside the storehouse, shrouded in darkness, light and shadow intersect as the mobiles move—sometimes quietly, as if guided by gravity, at other times with unpredictable, wavering motion.

Their presence is not mere decoration, but a form of kinetic art that transforms the entire space. Shinobu Hashimoto’s mobiles respond to wind, to human presence, and to the faintest currents of air, continually unfolding new visions. Shadows cast by the light spread softly across walls and floors, while the contrast with the trembling darkness in silence heightens the viewer’s senses.

Through the interplay of analog craftsmanship and the embrace of the space itself, the interior of the kura transforms into a stage where each passing moment reveals a different expression. What emerges is Shinobu Hashimoto’s unique world—where the unpredictability of movement gives rise to chance, and that very chance intersects with necessity as an aesthetic.

Shinobu Hashimoto

橋本 忍 (Shinobu Hashimoto)

Born in 1980 in Sapporo, Hokkaido.

After graduating from university, I traveled around Australia, Europe, and Asia, then moved to Shizuoka Prefecture, where I established my own studio and began my creative work. My artist name is “Shinobu Hashimoto,” and my brand name is “ningulu.”

From gallery exhibitions to solo shows, department store events, and craft markets, his works have been showcased in a wide range of settings.

Mobiles crafted from brass and copper sway gently in the presence of light and wind, subtly altering the flow of time. Embracing the textures of metal and the beauty of its natural patina, they bring a soft, atmospheric presence into the space.

モビールとジュエリー

Exhibition & Sale of Mobiles and Jewelry

Brass and copper are shaped into mobiles that respond softly to wind and light. For this exhibition, mobiles will be shown alongside jewelry fashioned from the same metals, which will also be available for purchase. They invite you to experience their presence—as small sculptures woven into daily life, and as art worn on the body.

Installation Design

The piano sound performed by Shinobu Hashimoto is deconstructed and reassembled through programming, giving rise to new resonances. In response, light and sound devices fill the space, unfolding a spectrum of shifting expressions that evolve with the passage of time.

An Installation to Feel the Passage of Time
Even when the melody seems the same, the spatial arrangement of light and sound is generated anew in each moment, giving rise to entirely different scenes. A system embedded with sensors converts kinetic motion into light, introducing unpredictable fluctuations into the space. These ever-emerging landscapes intertwine with the viewer’s perception, awakening a renewed awareness of the flow of time.

This work employs advanced digital tools—TouchDesigner, Max/MSP, Ableton Live, and Arduino—that underpin generative art, resonating with the organic and poetic presence of Shinobu Hashimoto’s mobiles. Through the intersection of technology and analog craftsmanship, the world of Ruten unfolds—one that transcends formulas and code.

Light, sound, and movement intertwine to create a space in constant transformation. Discover an experience found only here—intellectual, sensorial, and uniquely your own.

VJ Wasabi

VJ Wasabi

In 2010, began creating spatial performances as a VJ with Electronic Mountain "電子山" at Myoren-ji Temple in Kyoto.

In 2017, collaborated with artist Shinobu Hashimoto on a light-and-shadow installation for Mingle Village. From then on, he has overseen VJ and lighting design at the festival.

Currently, his work fuses AI-generated imagery with programmed synthesis, in pursuit of a VJ expression that is at once ethereal and psychedelic.
